" Blessed are the meek , for they will inherit the earth " ( Matthew 5:5 ). I will start by giving you the definition of meek , it's probably not quite what you might think. Webster's 1828 dictionary says; Meek - mild of temper, gentle, not easily provoked or irritated. Submissive to the divine will, not proud. Jesus was the perfect example of meekness. There is not a correlation between meekness and weakness. The attributes of meekness is actually strength through virtue. Jesus spoke these words to a group who would have found this statement perplexing. Theirs was a world where Caesars ruled by force and armies killed to claim land. Today's world would find the declaration equally odd. In a culture where rights are everything and pride is a virtue, the brand of meekness seems like an insult that suggests weakness. The meekness Jesus spoke of - and lived out was far from weak. He chose to surrender His rights and submit to the Father's will, He poured Himself out for those He came to save, He became a servant even unto death so that the power of God could be displayed through Him. Through His meekness, He literally saved the world ( Phillipians 2:6-11 ). Only through the surrender of our will to the Father's can we experience the power of meekness. The humble would receive far greater than the arrogant and prideful. Not only do the meek enjoy more of life on earth because of their ability to be content, but they will possess and enjoy the earth after Jesus' return. Meekness is another piece of the puzzle to being able through Christ to live a godly Christian lifestyle and to be able to find favor in Gods sight. As we continue on through the beatitudes each one of these virtues are what we need to develop in our lives in order to through Christ Jesus to effectively live the Christian life that God intended for us. As we develop these virtues we will find ourselves mirroring our Savior. Isn't that truly where we want to be ? My brother's and sister's may we all determine that we all might come to be more like Him daily. I love you all and will continue praying for you all. May our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ be with you all.
